When I was a primary school child, my mother completed a year's secondment from Secondary school PE teaching, to do a course in 'Needlework'. I was entranced by the Textile Art she produced, that thought lay dormant for many years.
I have always sewn and knitted, making clothes and things for the home. Gradually the demands of work and family reduced my sewing time and once the children had grown up and left home, I realised that I not used my sewing machine for many years. I joined a Handicraft group and that led to Patchwork and Quilting!
After completing some workshops I found that I had a growing pile of UFO's and a very disjointed set of Patchwork and Quilting skills. So I found a City and Guilds course, run by Annette Morgan and Mary McIntosh and the rest is history. I now find myself producing Quilts and Textile Art, and my mother admires my work!
I am now trying to catch up on the ‘lost years’ and am heavily involved in my local group. Eager to meet even more like-minded people I joined the committee of Region 8 and am enjoying organising Regional Days and taking an active role on the committee.
