Margaret Ramsay

I've been a member of QGBI since 1986 ( my mum ,Jennie Ramsay, was an early member ) and of Contemporary Quilt from almost the start.
A botanist by profession, I use watercolour sketches and photographs made on travels around the world and closer to home as the source of inspiration for mixed media quilts. I like to use commercial, hand dyed and African fabrics as well as re-purposing old quilts and textiles. Hand and machine stitching are important means of mark-making and altering the surface. Computer manipulated images and scanned sketches are printed on a variety of fabrics. I am exploring ways of interpreting sketches directly in fabric, constructing pieced and densely quilted pieces overpainted with acrylic paints and composing seascapes from hand dyed indigo fabrics and threads.

I write regularly about the inspiration and techniques I use on my blog:
I also have a website with galleries showing my quilts and paintings:
