Helen Hill

I have dabbled in a variety of crafts over the years but now mainly focus on patchwork and quilting with some embroidery and mixed media embellishment. I studied for City and Guilds P&Q and achieved Part 1 Certificate in 2005 via distance learning with Julia Caprara of the Opus School of Textile Arts.
Due to current time constraints and a somewhat butterfly nature I mainly make smaller projects such as bags, cushions, book wraps, postcards and wall hangings. My most proud achievement is my first double bed quilt completed in March 2015, see slideshow.
Favourite sources of inspiration are butterflies, rainbows, tiles, stars, plants and landscape.
Favourite artists include Bridget Riley, Chuck Close & Patrick Hughes.
Cushion pictured at left comprises the butterfly 'costume' worn by my close friend when she took part in the London MoonWalk which has subsequently been appliqued to the cushion and padded to keep it's form. There was a team of eight wearing butterfly costumes, each one had a different combination of applique, machine embroidery, couched threads, with sequin embellishment.
